Phillies Charity Dinner Event

On December 13, 2010, Small Steps in Speech was invited to the Phillies Charity Dinner Event. Phillies Charities raises dollars to award grants to charitable organizations in Pennsylvania, NJ and Delaware and near The Phillies spring training and minor league affiliates.

Small Steps in Speech was awarded a grant for our foundation. Amanda Charney, Director of SSIS and Mary MacFarland, President were honored to attend the event. There were over 80 charities receiving awards and Small Steps was one of the new charities that was chosen to talk about our foundation.

Amanda did a great job - she was well spoken, composed and thorough. Her passion for the foundation and Marc was very apparent. She talked briefly about Marc - how he loved the Phillies and was able to attend the World Series parade. She then explained how and why the organization was formed (the meaning behind the name) and what SSIS has accomplished, in less than 2 years, for children and families around the country. Amanda ended with thanking John Weber (he nominated SSIS for the grant), the organization for recognizing the importance of our foundation and honoring an American hero.

It was a very uplifting night for all awardees. For Amanda and Mary they were happy to be able to spread the word about Small Steps in Speech and talk about SSG Marc Small's memory.

A huge thank you to the Philadelphia Phillies organization and John Weber, Phillies V.P. of Sales & Ticket Operations. Go Phillies!

This is wonderful and so deserved. We are one of the families blessed by Small Steps in Speech. We pray for Marc's family all of the time and wish for happiness and a great year for Amanda. What she is doing for kids is more than y'all will ever know. Giving my son a voice just brings such joy to my heart!
